Here we are at five weeks and Emerson is really starting to become her own person. The sleep schedule at night is starting to settle in nicely and we are enjoying the extended hours of sleep. She enjoys napping during the day and just starts to wake up when her Papa returns home from work which works out nicely for some father/daughter bonding. We're pretty sure we've gotten some smiles this week but they are still few and far between. We are still amazed at how long you can stare at a sleeping baby and are taking advantage of her naps while we can.

This week Emerson also received a special personal visit from the Easter Bunny!

Nearly 200 diapers later, Emerson has reached her first age milestone and is now one month old!

We had a lot of 'firsts' this week with Emerson's first real bath, first shopping outing, first bottle, first road trip to Maine and her first birthday party (her cousin Caleb turned 6 years old!).

Now that she is one month old, Emerson is a lot more entertaining and usually awake for a while during the day. Her big blue (so far) eyes are very curious and love looking at the ceiling fan and of course her Mom and Dad's faces. Although she smiles quite a bit while sleeping we are still awaiting her first intentional smile - although the unintentional ones are just as sweet!

We are at the end of week three and have gotten to know each other better with each passing minute. Emerson is still being very generous with her 4-5 hour stretches during the night although it is a trade off for very fussy evenings. We've learned to enlist the help of the Baby Bjorn and found that the microwave fan is a miracle worker when trying to settle her down - we just need to figure out how to make the microwave portable!

This week Ray went back to work for a few days and Mom and Emerson were able to hold things together pretty well. Unfortunately, Mom caught a stomach bug later in the week but was fortunate enough to have Emerson's "GG" next door to take over some of the care so Mom could rest.

Emerson is looking forward to her first road trip to Maine this coming weekend to celebrate her cousin Caleb's birthday. Mom and Dad are already starting to pack up half the house in order to make the trip We'll be sure to have some great pictures of Emerson with all her family for the next update.
